Don’t Mess with 4Chan

I think what the Oregon Tea Party has learned is “don’t steal slogans from vindictive anonymous geeks” but I may be mistaken.  I’ve seen precious little evidence that most Tea Party folks are capable of learning.

I don't get it. I mean, I get it in general but what was the specific misquote and shit?

They stole the slogan about "We are legion" etc. - it's a big part of the "Anonymous" thing which is one of 4chan's campaigns against Scientology and other groups. After they started to get beaten up about their lifting of the slogan, the OTP posted a statement that they don't care about the opinions of "basement dwellers" and then 4chan opened the floodgates of abuse and horrible photos. I assume there's some goatse stuff in there somewhere.

The tea partiers here in West-By-God Texas are some of the most willfully ignorant morons I've ever met. There are, true, a few of them which have some grasp of libertarian philosophy, but they are far outnumbered locally by the racists, paranoid conspiracy theorists, and random nutjobs. I can only speak of the tea partiers I've seen personally, because I assume the ones I see on the news (who are just as unhinged) are just the more photogenic crazies.

I can't argue with that at all, especially knowing how West Texans are.

I signed up for some e-mailings form the Dallas Tea Party just to see what they were actually about. While many were actually educated persons concerned about the state of the fed.gov, etc., the more vocal ones to include the people running the list were so bigoted and close minded I dropped the list as fast as I could.

Some of the things the Tea Party allegedly stand for I can support, but it's the ultra conservative rednecks who have basically taken over that are ruining what could have been a decent political/philosophical entity. Unfortunately it's those UCR's that are getting all the face time like you mentioned.
